Accountability

Established personnel and public safety procedures will serve as the mechanism for resolving situations of violence or threats of violence. For students and student applicants, this policy is administered through the Community Responsibility and Student Conduct Officer.

Applicability

This policy applies to all individuals on the campus of º£½ÇÉçÇø including vendors or guests.

º£½ÇÉçÇø Channel Islands prohibits violent acts or intimidation through threat of violence. Any individual who commits a violent act or threatens to commit a violent act is subject to disciplinary action and civil or criminal prosecution as appropriate. Each allegation of violence or threat of violence will be taken seriously. Individuals are encouraged to immediately report acts of violence, threats of violence, or any other behavior that by intent, act or outcome harms another person or property, to Public Safety, their supervisor, Human Resources Programs. Students should report this conduct to any Student Affairs administrator.

º£½ÇÉçÇø Channel Islands has zero tolerance for violence against any members of the University community. To fulfill this policy, the University will work to prevent violence from occurring and will ensure that federal and state laws, as well as University regulations prohibiting violence, are fully enforced. In determining whether conduct constitutes a credible threat or act of violence, the circumstances surrounding the conduct will be considered.

For the purpose of this policy, violence and threats of violence include, but are not limited to:

  • Any willful use of force against another;
  • Any act that is physically assaultive; or
  • Any threat, behavior or action which is interpreted by a reasonable person to potentially harm or endanger the safety of others or destroy or damage property.
