  • After downloading the app you will be able to join using your email address. 
  • Once you create your account, you will be able to personalize your profile by uploading an image of yourself, sharing information about who you are, and adding your interests.

  • Nearpeer is different. Other social media platforms are great for connecting with people you already know, Nearpeer introduces you to people you want to get to know. In Nearpeer, you get to create a profile and discover the other students with shared interests.
  • Nearpeer is an exclusive and closed community where you can meet and find other students at your school. Nearpeer is available to only the pre-approved users for your school.
  • No. None of your connections will have access to your phone number - you can choose to share your phone number in order to receive any messages via SMS when you are not in the app.
  • For users, it is free. You will never be asked to purchase any add-ons, and there are no ads!
  • Nearpeer鈥檚 approach is designed to create a voluntary, safe space for college students to find, meet, and build community among their peers. There is no anonymity in the Nearpeer platform, which ensures that users are accountable for their behavior. This virtually eliminates bad conduct. To further protect users, we employ a four-prong content moderation strategy, which includes:
    -   Automated moderation for appropriateness of language
    - Community moderation for each user to have the ability to flag content. Pictures and videos are not allowed to be sent or received in one-to-one or group chats.
  • Nearpeer is working on developing multi-account profiles for personal email addresses but this has not been released yet. If you experience this issue we recommend using your specific college email address for each account.
  • No! You can use a web browser from any computer, or you can download the app and use any Apple or Android device.

  • Please take a moment to read through the following guidelines as you get started. Nearpeer is a great space for you to get questions answered by various departments on campus, connect with current studentsand makenew friends before your first day of school. Be mindful of your interactions with others, have fun, and network! 

    • Our very knowledgeable student leaders will regularly check your questions in the 鈥淎sk Admissions鈥 group throughout the weekday and respond then. Please be patient as we answer all your questions. If you have urgent questions, it would be best to contact us via email student.ambassador@csuci.edu.  
    • Keep in mind that other members can see your questions in the group chats. If you have a private question, it would be best to email student.ambassador@csuci.edu. Please do not share any identifiable personal information that is on your myCI account. (Including: DOB, Dolphin ID, etc.). We will still enforce FERPA guidelines in this platform. 
    • Be respectful to other members of this platform at all times. Harassment of any kind, hostility, or threatening others (even as a joke) is not tolerated here. No hate speech.  
    • NSFW CONTENT: 鈥淰ideos, gifs, or still images depicting explicit sexual actions, whether real or illustrated, as well as detailed verbal descriptions of explicit sexual acts鈥 are strictly prohibited in this community. We are home to new incoming students, who may be minors. Posting anything NSFW will result in an automatic ban. 
    • Students are expected to become aware of and abide by the University community鈥檚 standards of behavior as articulated in the Student Code of Conduct, the University Catalog, University policies and other publications of the University. Students accept the rights and responsibilities of membership in the California State University Channel Islands community when they are admitted to the University.
