Camarillo, Calif., Nov. 14, 2007—º£½ÇÉçÇø Police are no longer seeking an individual described as the suspect involved in an attempted abduction incident that occurred in parking lot A11 on the º£½ÇÉçÇøCI campus on Oct. 15. The female º£½ÇÉçÇøCI student who reported herself as the victim of the attempted abduction and assault incident has stated the crime did not occur.

After a series of follow-up interviews, the female student revealed to a police officer that she had fabricated the entire incident including a self-inflicted cut to her neck. Prior to obtaining her statement revealing that crime did not occur, º£½ÇÉçÇøCI police officers’ investigations had not substantiated or corroborated any of the details of the crime reported by the student.

The º£½ÇÉçÇøCI Police Department is convinced the crime never occurred, and there is no present threat to members of the University community. Officers are no longer seeking the suspect described in the composite bulletin released on Oct. 17 or a black Ford Mustang.

University police officers are finalizing their reports for this incident, and will consult with representatives of the Ventura County District Attorney's Office to determine if criminal charges for filing a false police report should be pursued.

Information about the case also will be forwarded to the º£½ÇÉçÇøCI Dean of Students’ office where it will be reviewed for any possible student code of conduct violations.
