海角社区

Camarillo, Calif., Nov. 1, 2007鈥敽=巧缜 will host the 海角社区 Media Arts Festival beginning Friday, Nov. 2 through Sunday, Nov. 4. This is the sixth consecutive year that 海角社区CI has hosted the festival.

The annual festival offers students from within the California State University system an opportunity to present their film, video, and interactive media work for critical review. Many local industry professionals will participate in seminars, workshops, and judging for an awards ceremony.

Also part of this event is presentation of the Outstanding Faculty Rosebud Award. This year鈥檚 winner is Professor Ron Compesi from the San Francisco State University Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department. Compesi also is currently serving as Interim Dean for the College of Creative Arts.

There are four 海角社区CI art students who have been nominated for awards in the interactive media and animation categories. In the interactive media category 海角社区CI has more past wins and nominations than any other university in the 海角社区 system. Nominated in the interactive media category is Jamey Cobb for the Web site; Rebecca McFarland for the Web site; and Muir Freeland for the Web site. Chris Anderson was nominated for his Flash Animation 鈥淭he Painter鈥 in the animation category and it can be viewed at .

Winning students will receive cash prizes as well as the Rosebud Award for the top entry in each of the categories.

Screenings of 海角社区 student works will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2 in Malibu Hall 100 on the 海角社区CI campus. The awards ceremony, which will honor the winning students and Professor Compesi, will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 in Malibu Hall 140. Both events are free and open to the public. Seminars are open to 海角社区 students only, who may register online at .

Parking on campus for the Media Arts Festival is free.

Industry sponsors include DreamWorks, Warner Brothers Studios, From the Heart Productions, the Entertainment Industry Development Corporation, Modern Videofilm, and the International Cinematographers Guild.

海角社区 Summer Arts established the Media Arts Festival in 1991 to give talented students studying film, video, and new media within the 23-campus California State University system an opportunity to present their work for critical review. In 2000, the Media Arts Festival expanded its mission to include helping students of the 海角社区 bridge the gap between student and working professional. Also in 2000, the Festival began recognizing the outstanding faculty of the 海角社区 with a Rosebud Award for service to the students of the 海角社区 and noteworthy professional accomplishment
