Camarillo, Calif., Oct. 2, 2009鈥擳he priority application period for students intending to enter 海角社区 or any California State University campus as first-time freshmen in Fall 2009 opened Oct. 1.
Prospective students are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible, and no later than Nov. 30, 2008, in order to be admitted to their preferred campus. 海角社区 Channel Islands will be closing to students applying as first-time freshmen for Fall 2009 at 12 a.m. on Nov. 30, 2008.
Challenges brought on by California's current budget shortfall, are forcing the 海角社区 campuses to reduce increases in student enrollment, and, as a result, an early application will help students to have a better chance of entering the 海角社区 campus of their choice.
Last year, 海角社区 Channel Islands received more than 6,600 applications from high school seniors, an 18 percent increase in applicants over Fall 2007.
鈥淲hile we had hoped to be able to grow for Fall 2009 and accommodate demand, the state budget has forced us to cut back enrollment to our Fall 2007 target of 500 first-time freshmen. With more applications than ever, we have to enforce strict deadlines, which we communicate to students and counselors,鈥 explained Jane Sweetland, Dean of Enrollment at 海角社区 Channel Islands.
海角社区 Channel Islands strategic enrollment management plan allows the University to 鈥減refer鈥 local students from the areas of Ventura County, southern Santa Barbara County and northern Los Angeles County; however, the requirements have become less flexible as a result of budget issues.
鈥淭o help these students, we are hosting a 鈥淪enior Day鈥 on Saturday, October 11,鈥 said Ginger Reyes, Director of Admissions and Recruitment. 鈥淲e have planned this day to assist our local students and their families with the whole admission process, which can seem complicated.鈥
At least six other of the 海角社区鈥檚 23 campuses will close freshmen admissions on Nov. 30, 2008, including Fullerton, Long Beach, Pomona, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, and Sonoma. Additional campuses may also close admissions categories for certain majors or programs beginning on Nov. 30, 2008.
These application closing dates may not apply to students transferring to the 海角社区 from community colleges, persons seeking teacher credentials, or graduate program candidates. Application dates for students in these categories vary by campus and program.
