Camarillo, Calif., Jan. 17, 2008鈥敽=巧缜 will hold the groundbreaking ceremony for the Martin V. Smith Center for Integrative Decision-Making at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24. The event will be held on the 海角社区CI campus and signage will be in place leading to the location of the event.

The 4,148-square-foot Martin V. Smith Center for Integrative Decision-Making will provide 海角社区CI business students with real-life business learning opportunities. Using the latest technologies, students will be able to engage in computer simulations of running a business, providing hands-on experiences in making business decisions with local, national, or global implications.

鈥淲e are thrilled to break ground on the structure that will provide state-of-the-art technology as a tool to develop further the skills of our students and support the business community as well,鈥 said University President Richard R. Rush.

Martin V. Smith and his family have been longtime benefactors of the University, whose support has been instrumental in the creation of outstanding programs. Their gift of $8 million to Cal State Channel Islands represents the commitment of the Smith family and Smith Foundation to the value of education and to the creation of an academic institution that will enhance student learning as well as play a role in the life of the community.

The Martin V. Smith Center for Integrative Decision-Making will be located on University Drive opposite Sage Hall. The design architect for the project is Gruen Associates and the general contractor is PCL Construction Services, Inc.

Free parking and a free shuttle service to and from the campus will be available from the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road parking lot in Camarillo. There will be a limited amount of free parking reserved for this event on campus. Please note the date of this event occurs during the first week the spring semester and parking availability will be impacted.
