Camarillo, Calif., Nov. 5, 2008鈥敽=巧缜 has several events scheduled for the month of November. The following information details some of the events faculty, staff, and students have organized and scheduled that will be happening on the 海角社区CI campus. Thursday, Nov. 6--University Student Union ground-breaking ceremony
The ground-breaking ceremony for the new University Student Union at 海角社区 will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6. The event will be held on the 海角社区CI campus at the site of the former University Library adjacent to the Bell Tower. Signage will be in place leading to the location of the event. This event is complimentary and the public is invited to join the campus community. A reception with light refreshments will follow the ceremony.
The new 23,000-square-foot University Student Union will include a large programmable area for student gathering, food service, lounges, game room, and student organization offices. It also includes renovating the 鈥渢ree house鈥 courtyard for outdoor events and gathering for the entire campus community.
Limited parking is available on campus. Free parking and a free shuttle service will be available from the Camarillo Metrolink Station /Lewis Road parking lot in Camarillo with shuttle service to and from the campus for the ground-breaking ceremony event. For exact times, check the schedule at .

Thursday, Nov. 6鈥擲torytime at the John Spoor Broome Library
The John Spoor Broome Library at 海角社区 will host Storytime on Thursdays in November and December. Storytime will be held from 3 to 3:30 p.m. in the Children鈥檚 section at the Library. Storytime books will be read by Miss Shriya, soon-to-be-10 years old, and is part of the Broome Library鈥檚 鈥渒ids reading to kids program.鈥
Dates for upcoming Storytimes are: Nov. 6, 13 and 20; and Dec. 4 and 11. These events are free and open to the campus community and public.

Friday, Nov. 7, 8鈥敽=巧缜 Media Arts Festival
The 海角社区 Media Arts Festival presents the best student work from throughout the 23-campus 海角社区 system beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7. The event will be held in Malibu Hall 100 and is free and open to the campus community and public. There were 175 student entries submitted, and 26 projects were chosen to be screened on Friday, Nov. 7.
These works will include narratives, documentaries, animations, music videos, television projects, experimental films, and websites. There are two 海角社区CI students who are finalists in the 鈥淚nteractive鈥 category and they are: Cassandra Evans and Michael Arroyo. Audience members will also cast their votes for the 鈥淎udience Choice Award,鈥 which will be presented to the winning students on Saturday, November 8 at the student award ceremony.

Friday, Nov. 7鈥擫ibrarian-Teacher Open House
The staff and faculty of the John Spoor Broome Library are hosting a special event to showcase the services available through the University鈥檚 Library for local librarians and teachers. The Open House event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov 7. The event will be divided into brief information sessions and Library tours. Some sessions overlap and repeat so all attendees have the opportunity to attend most information sessions. Light refreshments will be served, and RSVPs are requested for planning purposes. There will be a special presentation by world-renowned economist and endowed 海角社区CI Professor Sung Won Sohn on Monday, Nov. 10. The event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., and introduction and welcome from University President Richard R. Rush, and Sohn鈥檚 presentation, 鈥淲hat Went Wrong? 海角社区 will present its fifth annual Campus Reading Celebration featuring Nina Revoyr, author of 鈥淪outhland鈥 at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Doors open for this event at 6 p.m. The event will be held in Salon A. A book-signing will follow Revoyr's presentation.
Admission for 海角社区CI students, faculty, and staff is free, but reservations are required. The cost to attend the event is $10 for community members and $5 for non-海角社区CI students.

A panel discussion titled 鈥淕lobalization: Its Impact on You,鈥 will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the Petite Salon on the 海角社区 campus. There is no RSVP required and this event is sponsored by the Dean鈥檚 Leadership Council, IRA Committee, and the Center for International Affairs.
This event will feature brief presentations from George Ritzer, University of Maryland Sociologist and author of 鈥淭he McDonaldization of Society鈥; Ted Bagley, Vice President of Human Resources鈥擶orld Wide Manufacturing for Amgen Inc. in Thousand Oaks; and Laura Robin, BMW Group DesignworksUSA Director of Strategy and Design Research. Following their presentations there will be a question and answer session. This discussion will address cultural globalization and how globalization will impact the careers of future college graduates.
