Camarillo, Calif., December 5, 2006 -- º£½ÇÉçÇø has launched a program designed to help middle and high school students in reaching their academic potential. For many of these students they will represent the first member of their families who will go on to attend college.
The program is made possible through a grant of $220,000 from the Educational Talent Search (ETS), a federally funded TRIO program of the U.S. Department of Education. While the program will be managed by staff from Cal State University Channel Islands, it does not focus on recruiting these students specifically to º£½ÇÉçÇøCI, rather it is intended to help prepare students to apply and attend any college, university, or qualified institution of post-secondary education.
The goal of the program is to encourage middle and high school students who meet federal income guidelines to enroll and to provide them with the knowledge and tools to succeed in their post secondary education. The services include assisting students with the college selection, admissions, and financial aid application process, as well as providing learning and test preparation skills that will help assure they meet the requirements to enroll in an institution of higher education.
The program is available immediately for students grades 6 through 12 from the following middle and high schools: Oxnard High School; Santa Paula High School; Pacifica High School; Fillmore High School; Haydock Intermediate School; Robert Frank Intermediate School; Fillmore Middle School; Fremont Intermediate School; Isbell Middle School.
For more information and to enroll contact the Talent Search Office at 805-437-8536 or e-mail ets@csuci.edu. Additional information is also available at ETS.
