The 海角社区CI Campus Reading Celebration brings a well-known author to campus each year. The University鈥檚 Foundation Board provides complimentary copies of an author鈥檚 selected book to members of the campus community, and they are asked to read and discuss the book at the scheduled events. In addition, faculty members are encouraged to incorporate discussions of the book in their courses.
In The Open Space of Democracy, Williams writes about the ethics of the environment, spiritual democracy, and the responsibilities for citizen engagement in the protection of America鈥檚 natural settings.
鈥淟ast year鈥檚 celebration was one of the most successful events on campus,鈥 said Renny Christopher, 海角社区CI professor of English and chair of the Campus Reading Celebration committee. 鈥淚t is an opportunity for University students, faculty, staff, and administrators to share, along with interested members of the community, a common intellectual experience. And this year, we have not only an outstanding author but a woman of great intellect, perspective, and insight into a topic of concern to all. Terry Tempest Williams will surely spark interesting discussions throughout the 海角社区CI campus.鈥
