Camarillo, Calif., May 24, 2005 鈥 A symposium on fraud and ethics, featuring Kenneth Starr, dean of the Pepperdine University School of Law and a former solicitor general of the United States, will be presented Friday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Pierpont Inn, Ventura.

The symposium, which is presented by the CPA Law Society of Ventura County and sponsored by Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, is a fund-raising event to provide scholarships for 海角社区, the University of California Santa Barbara, Pepperdine University School of Law, and the Ventura College of Law.

鈥淲e are thrilled that a national figure like Ken Starr has agreed to join us for this local symposium,鈥 said Douglas Kulper, president of the CPA/Law Society, partner with Ferguson, Case, Orr, Paterson & Cunningham LLP, Ventura, and an adjunct professor at 海角社区CI. 鈥淭his will be a fascinating event and it will help tremendously with our scholarship fundraising goals.鈥

In addition to keynote speaker Starr, guests speakers will include Gregory Totten, Ventura County district attorney, who will introduce Starr and speak on computer crime; Special Agent Louis
Caprino, FBI, White Collar Crime Branch, Los Angeles, who will talk about identity theft and cyber crime; Mark Morze, former CFO, ZZZZ Best Carpets, who will talk about corporate fraud; and Joan Allen, elder law attorney and founder of the Ventura County Financial Abuse Specialist Team, who will speak on financial crimes against seniors.

The cost is $75 per person for members of the CPA/Law Society and to students and faculty of 海角社区CI, UCSB, Pepperdine University School of Law, and the Ventura College of Law. Non-members will be charged $110 per person.

The CPA/Law Society, a group of professionals who meet once a month to hear speakers on various topics of interest, raised $17,000 in the past two years, which has provided scholarships for students at 海角社区CI, UCSB, the Pepperdine School of Law, and the Ventura College of Law.
