Camarillo, Calif., August 31, 2006 - John M. Reid, a 25-year veteran of law enforcement, has joined 海角社区 as its director of Public Safety, a position that includes serving as university chief of police as well as supervisor of transportation and parking.

Reid has an extensive background in university law enforcement, most recently serving as chief of police for the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, and before that as police captain at the University of Arkansas. He began his career in the Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin Police Department in 1981 and from 1986 to 1992 he served as a deputy sheriff in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

The new 海角社区CI official has a bachelor of science degree in management from Cardinal Stritch University and a master of science degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. In addition, he is a graduate of the 202nd session of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia.

Reid serves as a program assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., and is actively involved as a member of Optimist International, the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

鈥淚'm very glad to be here at 海角社区CI,鈥 Reid said. 鈥淭his is a new university and I'm here to help it grow. I want to foster an awareness among campus constituents that public safety involves the entire campus community. It is not simply a matter of reactive response from police officials. Instead, it is a proactive partnership among individuals and groups, and includes such factors as education, collaboration, planning, and design, in addition to traditional enforcement and security measures. Since 9/11, public safety officials nationwide have had to focus their energies on preparation and readiness initiatives. I'm here to facilitate that process.鈥
