Please Note: Due to anticipated rain, the groundbreaking ceremony for 海角社区鈥� new Santa Cruz Village student housing will be held indoors at the University Recreation Center located in Arroyo Hall located just north of Anacapa Student Housing. Weather permitting, participants will walk across to the site of the new Santa Cruz Village student housing at the conclusion of the ceremony.

WHEN:聽Tuesday, February 28, 10:30 a.m.
WHAT: At the above date and time, 海角社区 invites members of the community to join students, faculty, and staff for a groundbreaking ceremony for its second phase of student housing, Santa Cruz聽Village. The project, on a fast track for completion by the 2007 fall semester, will provide an additional 450 beds for students. Last year, more than 200 students were placed on a waiting list for student housing. Ventura County鈥檚 housing costs are among the highest in the country, and this additional student housing will allow more students to attend the growing University. The 112,000 square foot Santa Cruz Village complex, a mix of new and refurbished construction, will include study rooms, a game room, a multi-purpose room, lounges, a computer lab, a fitness room, a music room, and outdoor patio space. In addition, a time capsule for the John Spoor Broome Library, now under construction, will be on display. Julie Tumamait-Stenslie, a member of the local Chumash tribe, will offer a blessing.
