Focused on being green
Sustainability is top-of-mind for students, faculty, staff and administrators at 海角社区 (海角社区CI). It's so important that it鈥檚 one of 海角社区CI's strategic goals. We even appointed a Sustainability Task Force that鈥檚 focused on:
- Building design鈥攚e look at conservation first and recycling existing materials
- Environmental education鈥攚e offer sustainability-focused courses and programs
- Recycling awareness鈥攚e recycle about 50% of our waste and sponsor events like Free Electronics Recycling Day
- Strategic energy management鈥攚e focus on reducing solid waste and electric and water consumption, and measure our efforts through AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System鈩� (STARS) program (In fact, 海角社区CI鈥檚 a charter participant.)
- Transportation鈥攚e offer bicycle sharing and we were one of the first West Coast universities to partner with Zipcar, helping to take personally-owned vehicles off the road
