海角社区CI鈥檚 artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Ekhobot, is an innovative communication tool to reach all of its students and offers access and support by providing students with campus-specific information, reminders and updates in a timely manner. Through intentional text messages and nudge messages, students are able to make deliberate decisions and take action toward their student success. By way of interactive messages, Ekhobot connects students to campus resources, events and information. Additionally, students have access to two-way communication with the bot by asking questions 24/7 related to 海角社区CI.

Ekhobot is a tool to increase equitable access to information and serves as an instrument to reduce the achievement gap and persistence to graduation for underserved populations by providing equitable access to information and nudge campaigns for services that support retention and intervention. The bot has helped 海角社区CI to focus on information equity in order to remove barriers to information while using accessible language and mode of communication. Developing an information equity framework for communication has allowed for transformation in our campus鈥 approach when communicating with students and disseminating important information.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Ekhobot knows a lot about 海角社区CI, but no chatbot is perfect. If Ekhobot doesn't know an answer, a real human will read your question and get you an answer within 24 hours.

  • Yes! Ekhobot is intended to be helpful. If you don鈥檛 want to receive messages from Ekhobot, you can text #pause at any time.

  • Of course! Ekhobot is happy to help! If you saved Ekhobot's contact info in your phone, just text "unpause" to that number to begin engaging with Ekhobot again and receiving messages. Or you can send an email to ekhobot@csuci.edu letting Ekhobot know you'd like to opt back in.

  • If you鈥檇 like to chat with Ekhobot, you need to have a cell phone number listed in your CI Records Student Center. Here's how to check that you have one listed or update it:

    • Log into your CI Records Student Center via .
    • Scroll down to the Personal Information section. Use the drop down menu to find Phone Numbers.
    • Make sure your phone numbers are up to date. Label your cell phone number as Mobile, and check it as Preferred.
